When milk cartons are hand-filtered, the paper is colored with the coffee grounds that would normally be thrown away after dripping, resulting in a soft, calming light brown color.
We used the texture of the "ears," which are the parts of the paper that are left as they are after being made and not cut on all four sides, and added illustrations using letterpress printing to create the bookmarks.
This bookmark is carefully made at NOZOMI PAPER Factory, a welfare facility for people with disabilities located in Minami Sanriku, Miyagi Prefecture.
People with disabilities share the production responsibilities and go through the entire process, from making the raw materials for the paper to papermaking and finishing, to create the bookmarks they are proud of, each with a unique texture.
